NEWBURGH – The number of police calls regarding shots fired in the City of Newburgh has been down in recent days and because of the recent introduction of the ShotSpotter program, police response time has been better.
Officer in Charge Lt. Aaron Weaver said the program has proven an early success.
“The ones we have had the activations have provided us time to get there sooner to develop and locate more evidence, possibly a suspect, to be able to get to witnesses sooner,” he said. “Even though the activations have been low, which is positive, the officers’ response times have been quicker.”
Weaver also said because of the police department’s overall approach to community networking, more residents, including potential witnesses, are stepping forward with information.
