GOSHEN – Orange County and its Deputy Sheriffs’ PBA union
have reached a new five-year contract. The current union contract expires
at the end of the year.

The wage portion of the new pact includes 1.95 percent in 2018; two percent
in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

All 87 members of the bargaining unit, who work at the county sheriff’s
office, will pay 16 percent of the healthcare premium for the duration
of this contract not to exceed $1,000 more than the previous year.

The new contract also includes a designation of senior investigator, prior
military and police service up to three years now creditable toward Orange
County health insurance retirement benefits and an educational fund of
$10,000 has been established.

PBA President Mark Lopez said the agreement “represents the interests
of our membership.”

County Executive Steven Neuhaus said the settlement “fairly represents
the views of both the county and the PBA. “This is a fair and equitable
contract for county government and for the men and women of the sheriff’s
office who do terrific work every day to make our county a safer place.”

Union rank-and-file has already approved the pact and the county legislature
is expected to give its okay next week.
