ALBANY – The State Environmental Facilities Corporation has committed $8.6 million to the Town of Fallsburg to help finance costs associated with the planning, design and construction of an upgrade to the town’s South Fallsburg wastewater treatment plant.
The financial package includes a $2.1 million grant, a $4 million zero-interest
loan and a $2.5 million low-interest loan.
Town Supervisor Steven Vegliante said the money will certainly take pressure
off local residents.
“Having almost a quarter of it as a grant and half of it as a no-interest loan makes it that much easier for our taxpayers to bear the expense,” he said. “This is an over 30-year-old sewer plant that requires upgrades. It will improve the quality of the effluent going into the precious Neversink River and it will improve the operation of the plant and make it more efficient.”
Vegliante said the total cost of this one project is some $10 million. It is currently in the planning stages, he said.
The other sewer plants in the town will also need upgrades going forward, the supervisor said.
