BETHEL – The Village of Monticello won the $250,000 top prize at Monday night’s Sullivan Renaissance Awards ceremony at Bethel Woods in Bethel.
The village was recognized for the transformation it has accomplished in beautification, code enforcement and building healthy communities. The top prize was secured from the state by Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther.
Monticello Village Manager David Sager said the village board and administration “have done a world of work to reinvigorate things and get community buy-in in a challenging place.” He said the village is “committed to reclaiming this village as a proud County Seat.”
The Town of Fallsburg was awarded a $50,000 grant through Senator John Bonacic; and the Village of Jeffersonville was awarded a $50,000 grant bequeathed by former Renaissance judge Tim Stoddard.
The towns of Thompson and Mamakating were both recognized with the Bronze Feather Award of $25,000 each.
A total of $500,000 in grants and scholarships were awarded to communities throughout the county.
