Woman lets stranger into her home; he steals two wedding rings

RAMAPO  – Town of Ramapo police say Thursday evening, a Village of Montebello woman, home with her granddaughter, was approached by a man asking to shine the wheels on her car for $20. After the work was done, the woman let suspect entered the house, then left him alone while she went for the payment.
After he was paid and left the area, the victim noticed that two of three wedding rings were missing from a table in her front foyer.
Ramapo police identified a suspect, arresting him as he was driving a vehicle with a suspended license.  
Kevin William, 24, confessed to stealing the rings. The jewelry was recovered and returned to the victim.  
Williams is charged with felony grand larceny.
Residents are cautioned against permitting unlicensed contractors or any unknown persons into their homes, especially leaving them unattended.  Door to door solicitation requires a permit in the Town of Ramapo. Residents should call the police if needed.
