Two arrested after gunfire in Newburgh

NEWBURGH – City of Newburgh Police responded to the area of 71 Lander Street at about 12:30 this morning for a report of gunshots.
Officer spoke with several witnesses who described two black males attempting to assault a group near Lander and Campbell streets. During the altercation one of the males fired a handgun into the air before they both fled in a vehicle. Officers located a spent .380 caliber shell casing at the scene.
The suspect vehicle was locatd about 15 minutes later near 324 Grand Street. The two occupants were determined to be the ones who had fled. Both made admissions regarding their role in the altercation.
Arrested was Larry Jones, 25, of Newburgh and Antonio Harriott, 27, of Virginia.
Jones was charged with attempted assault.  Harriott was charged with criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment. The firearm that was used during this incident has yet to be recovered. The cause of the altercation appears to have stemmed from a prior incident.
The investigation is ongoing.
