STEWART AIRPORT – Norwegian
Air currently flies between Stewart Airport near Newburgh and Ireland,
Northern Ireland, Scotland and Norway, and under a new FAA rule, it may
expand its operations, perhaps adding service to England.
The Stewart Airport Commission Tuesday went on record in support of that new rule, which commission Chairman Louis Heimbach noted could open up even more routes.
“Norwegian Air has made a proposal to the Federal Aviation Administration that has been approved, but it is still winding its way through the public comment period, to provide service directly to the UK and this is probably about the same position as the original proposal to provide air service to the British Isles was also,” he said.
That could open service to London and the surrounding area, which would provide “a big boost to the area.”
