BEACON – The state’s Empire State Development Corporation issue a request for expressions of interest on Friday, seeking proposals for the reuse and redevelopment of the 39-acre former Beacon Correctional Facility.
The property with 22 buildings, adjacent to the Fishkill Correctional Facility, is partially in the City of Beacon and Town of Fishkill.
The Beacon Correctional Facility was vacated in 2013 as part of the state’s decommissioning and consolidation of underutilized prisons.
A previous request for proposals generated one response, said Beacon Mayor Randy Casale.
A task force of local, Dutchess County and state representatives felt it would be better served to issue the new expressions of interest request to learn of potential ideas for redevelopment of the property.
Responses are due back on Friday, September 15.
Information received from the request for expressions of interest will be used to inform a planned request for proposals process, state officials said.
