MIDDLETOWN – Holiday times like the Fourth of July are when the state allows certain types of fireworks to be legally used in New York. But, cities have the right to opt out of the program if they feel fireworks are a nuisance and danger.
Among those cities is Middletown and Police Chief Ramon Bethencourt said they will crack down on the use.
“We are going to be very stringent and diligent in our efforts to address fireworks and it is going to be a no-nonsense approach so we are going to be giving out tickets and making arrests where appropriate,” the chief said.
The Newburgh City Council, on the other hand, chose not to ban the use during statewide allowable times.
