Man dead in reported police involved shooting

STONY POINT – A man is dead following a confrontation with a State Park Police trooper in Stony Point.
There are conflicting initial reports as to what happened. One report says the man told the officer he was going to kill himself inside a church on St. John’s Road and then shot himself. Another report said the man pointed a gun at the trooper, who then fired.
Police have yet to release information about the incident, which occurred early Monday afternoon.
