Warwick man arrested for large marijuana distribution operation

WARWICK – A 25-year-old Warwick man was arrested on Thursday and
Warwick Town Police shut down a large marijuana distribution operation.

Thomas Cancel was pulled over for a traffic violation on Route 94 and
Officer Kevin Halsey and K-9 Nicky discovered 12.4 pounds of marijuana
and a small amount of marijuana oil in his vehicle.

As a result of investigation, Cancel’s residence at 327 Route 94
in Warwick was searched and officers seized 15 pounds of suspected marijuana,
233 vials of marijuana oil, 3.8 pounds of marijuana wax, an illegal firearm
– a shotgun, scales, money counting machines and items commonly
used to produce marijuana oil. Officers also seized $97,000 in cash and
a 2006 Toyota pickup truck.

Cancel was remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail
on charges of felony possession of marijuana, misdemeanor possession of
drugs and criminal possession of a weapon.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of state and federal
agencies.
