ELLENVILLE – An Ellenville man is accused of sexually abusing a
woman. Jean Carlos Colon, 23, was arrested in less than eight hours after
a joint police investigation.
Ellenville Village Police said at about 3 a.m. on Sunday, a woman was walking on Center Street by the taxi stand when she was approached by a man who pulled her into an alley and forcibly sodomized her.
The suspect then fled on a bicycle and the victim immediately went to the police station to report the incident. She was transported to the Health Alliance Broadway campus where she was treated for her injuries and was examined by the sexual assault unit.
Ellenville Police enlisted the aid of a State Police K-9 unit from Highland and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division.  Police got a break when Ellenville Officer Jacobs, based on the description of the suspect, provided an identity to him. Another alert officer, Sal Giordano, spotted Colon while patrolling. He was interviewed and the victim gave a positive identification.
A search warrant was obtained and executed at Colon’s residence where police seized evidence tying him to the incident.
Colon was charged with two counts of criminal sexual act as a felony.  He is in the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond
