WHITE PLAINS – A New Rochelle man was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder of a man he shot on April 3, 2016.
Stivenson Desir, 20, was found guilty by a Westchester County Court jury of murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the death of Brandon Lawrence, an Iona College student.
New Rochelle Police received 911 calls reporting shots fired in Lincoln Park early in the morning. When they arrived, they found Lawrence dead in the center area of the ball field.
Police investigation determined that both Desir and Lawrence had attended a party hours before at an apartment in New Rochelle described as off-campus housing used by Iona College.
After the party, five men including Desir and Lawrence went to the park and while there, two of the other men engaged in a pre-arranged fist fight. As they were watching, Desir pulled a handgun and shot Lawrence in the torso, killing him.
Desir was located at his apartment later in the day by New Rochelle Police.
