MONTICELLO – A Liberty man was sentenced to four years in state
prison and 10 years of post-release supervision for disseminating indecent
material to a minor as a sexually motivated felony. James Trojahn, 40,
pled guilty on November 7, 2016 in Sullivan County Court and admitted
that in February of that year, he sent a picture of his genitals to a
14-year-old girl and solicited her to have sex with him.
The girl reported what had happened to a guidance counselor in school, who contacted the Fallsburg Police. That agency conducted an investigation that led to Trojahn’s arrest.
There was no physical sexual conduct with the victim.
“This case highlights why we need to be constantly engaging our children and speaking with them about what is going on in their digital worlds, and, if anyone is propositioning them or soliciting pictures from them we need to make sure that they know that they should report it to a trusted adult,” said Sullivan County District Attorney James Farrell.
Trojahn will be required to register as a sex offender when he is released from prison and will be supervised by parole authorities for 10 years after serving his four-year prison sentence.
