MONTICELLO – Everything is on track with Sullivan County’s long overdue new jail.
Public Works Commissioner Ed McAndrew told the county legislature’s Public Works Committee on Tuesday that after years of planning and delays, and figuring out where the money would come from, the contractors working on the project are getting down to serious business.
“We had to kick-start everything back up because they have actually been on hold and with the number of changes and add in the sheriff offices, the admin offices, was a lot of work to accomplish in a very short period of time, and they did it,” McAndrew said.
Site work, including foundations, continues, now that winter appears to be over.  Cell installation should begin by summer.
Public Works Committee Chairman Joseph Perrello said change orders have been minimal and smoothly handled.
The new jail should be ready to welcome its first guests in 2019.
