POUGHKEEPSIE – Original estimates to rebuild the broken down skateboard park on the Poughkeepsie waterfront were as much as $35,000. The skateboarders raised about $2,000 and spent only pennies, salvaged parts and rebuilt the facility to the point where 80 percent is functional, according to Patrick McGuire, one of the park restoration organizers.
He said the park is definitely back in business.
“It is probably the most used part of the waterfront,” McGuire said. “I’ve been down there probably every other day since the start of last week. It’s amazing to see it back on its feet. We just got all of the debris gone so it looks beautiful. People are loving it. It’s awesome.”
How to use the $2,000 that has been collected has yet to be determined.
The volunteers anticipate having a formal opening of the restored park in the next several days.
