Diana: Back in the game
TOWN OF WALLKILL – Former Orange County Executive Edward Diana
is returning to the public eye. He is going to run for Wallkill town supervisor
in November.
While Diana has yet to make an announcement and he was unavailable for
comment, the chairwoman of the town Republican Committee, Nanci Itzla,
told Mid-Hudson News the party has already backed Diana for the town’s
top job.
“We feel he has the skills and the leadership abilities to continue
to lead the Town of Wallkill forward in the progressive nature that Supervisor
Dan Depew has been leading the town in over the last five years,”
she said.
Depew is leaving the supervisor’s job later this month to become
Sullivan County Government’s first deputy county manager.
On the Democratic side, no candidate has emerged at this point, but County
Legislator Michael Paduch is considering a run, according to several sources.
He has not responded to requests for comment.
Early in his political career, Diana served on the Wallkill town board.
He later served on the county legislature, before running for county executive,
a post he held until he retired 3 ½ years ago due to ill health.
Before he chose not to seek reelection, he underwent a successful liver
transplant.
Under the administration of County Executive Steven Neuhaus, Diana has
been serving as an appointed member of the county Industrial Development
Agency.
