TOWN OF HIGHLANDS – The National Council of Home Safety and Security has rated the Town of Highlands (in Orange County) as the safest municipality in the state. The status was based on the organization’s review of the most recent FBI Uniform Crime report statistics.
Highlands Police Chief John Quinn said the town has taken a pro-active stance on crime reduction.
“Five months ago we authorized a special investigations unit comprised of Town and Village of Highland Falls police officers to investigate narcotics complaints and we have been successful in affecting several arrests and I think this is letting the bad element know if they are going to set up business in the Town of Highlands, we are going to be looking at them,” Quinn said.
