MIDDLETOWN – Well-known Middletown attorney Robert Isseks died
Monday, Middletown Police confirmed. His death is not considered suspicious,
said Lt. Gregory Metakes.
His body was discovered by someone on the grounds of Hillside Cemetery
off Mulberry Street in the early evening. Mayor Joseph DeStefano reflected
that he loved to walk throughout the city and was taking a daily stroll
when he collapsed.
The mayor said he was “a friend who had a passion for the city.
He was a good, decent man who will sorely be missed.”
Isseks was the law partner of Alex Smith, who is also a part-time Middletown
city government attorney. He was a former city court judge and served
as special counsel to the city.
Isseks was a 1973 graduate of Syracuse University.  He received a Masters Degree in philosophy from Colgate University in 1975 and graduated from Fordham University School of Law in 1978.   He was admitted to practice before the courts of the State of New York, the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, Northern and Western Districts of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the United States Supreme Court.
He was in private practice in Orange County for some 38 years concentrating in federal and state litigation, both trials and appeals.
