KINGSTON – The Kingston Common Council approved the $125,000 bond to pay for new parking meter kiosks in the city’s parking lots, but they have yet to be ordered.
Mayor Steven Noble expects to do that in the coming weeks with the hope of having them up and running for the busy summer tourist season.
Noble said the anticipated revenue will be for only about six months this year.
“Because of the delay in getting this started, we don’t necessarily think we are going to hit all of the same budget projections,” the mayor said. “One of the things that mostly impacted that is we are going to implement these relatively low-cost parking permits of $10; my initial proposal was $40 a month, so there is a change there.”.
Noble said they had projected $175,000 in income from the parking kiosks, $100,000 of that for parking lot upgrades. But with revenue anticipated to fall short of that this year, they can put off the repairs for a year.
