GOSHEN – A state corrections officer assigned to the Otisville
Correctional Facility was arrested on Thursday following an investigation
into narcotics possession.

A joint investigation by Town of Deerpark and City of Port Jervis Police,
the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group and
the District Attorney’s Office resulted in the arrest of Michael
Leake, 24, of Deerpark. He was charged with felony criminal possession
of a controlled substance and criminally using drug paraphernalia.

DA David Hoovler said despite being in law enforcement, Leake is going
to get the same treatment as anyone else who committed a crime.

“It is a tragedy in that he is a law enforcement officer, a corrections
officer, but he crossed the line, he broke the law, and we are going to
hold him accountable,” the DA said.

When officers executed a search warrant at his Westbrookville residence,
they seized 43 backs of heroin, cash, a scale and other materials commonly
used by drug traffickers.

Leake was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of
$50,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.

If convicted, he could face up to nine years in state prison.
