CARMEL – A boyfriend and girlfriend from the Town of Kent were arrested after they allegedly stole beer and soda from a local supermarket.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says Eric Hawkins, 29, and Jennifer Giorgio, 44, were arrested following a search by sheriff’s deputies and Kent Town Police. They were both charged with felony robbery.
The incident, which occurred at 10:45 a.m. on March 21 and not made public for one week, occurred at the ShopRite store on Route 52 in Carmel. A store detective told police the couple had allegedly stolen the drinks and that Hawkins had allegedly punched the employee when he tried to stop them.
The pair fled before deputies arrived, but were apprehended later.
Hawkins was sent to the Putnam County Jail without bail because of two prior felony convictions. Giorgio was committed in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.  If found guilty, they could face up to 15 years in state prison and fines of up to $15,000.
