MIDDLETOWN – There is no word yet on when the state will approve the list of projects submitted by Middletown in the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. The city was selected as the only municipality in the Hudson Valley/Catskill region to receive $10 million from Albany.
Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, who was in Middletown on Monday, said the project list is being reviewed at the state level.
“The progress is moving forward beautifully,” said Hochul. “The governor is saying this is working exactly as he planned. It’s proceeding very well; so, we’ll keep the community very much in touch.”
Mayor Joseph DeStefano said the proposed projects list was submitted
to the state on February 28 and while it is $4 million above the $10 million
limit, he is hopeful the state will approve all of the projects and provide
the additional funds.
Two projects are ready to advance as soon as Albany gives the green light to the spending plan – the redesign and reuse of the former Woolworth building and the Paramount Theater parking project.
DeStefano expects the approvals to come down in April.
