KINGSTON – City officials in Kingston will mull over proposed spending for the anticipated $670,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds.
Mayor Steven Noble has put together his own spending wish list for the money, which will be presented to the common council’s Community Development Committee.
“About $250,000 of it goes into emergency housing repair and a good chunk goes into first-time home buyer programs,” Noble said. “We also have a chunk of it going into helping facility, both city-owned buildings and non-for-profit institutions in the city.”
There is also money for organizations that help the most need at-risk individuals in the city and for recreational programs.
Noble is hopeful that the council will rubber stamp his plan.
The exact amount of funds coming from Washington has yet to be learned; however, the mayor said he expects it to be the same as last year’s $670,000.
