WAPPINGER – State Police arrested a Hopewell man on a felony charge of criminal possession of a forged instrument.
Robert Huzar, 29, allegedly asked two acquaintances last fall to cash checks for him since he did not have a bank account. Several days later, the victims reported having the checks returned because the bank account on which they were drawn was closed.
Troopers investigated and found that Huzar had stolen the checks from a family member and forged them. As a result, the victims had lost over $275 each.
Huzar was sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond. The investigation is continuing and police said additional charges are pending.
State Police were assisted by Fishkill Town Police.
