NEW CITY – Republican Rockland County Executive Edwin Day and the new Democratic leadership on the county legislature have reached a mutual understanding to move the county forward.
Day and new legislative Chairman Toney Earl announced several advancements
late Wednesday afternoon including an agreement to sell the vacant county-owned
SANE building in New City with an eye toward selling it for some $4 million
to the sole bidder on the facility.
They also announced resolution to the sheriff’s deputies union contract, which expired six years ago.
The county executive said the county is setting aside partisan politics.
“Rockland County, despite the fact that we all have differences of opinions in government; we are not going to engage in continued D.C.-style politics,” Day said. “We want people to understand that our eye is on the ball, that we are there to serve them, and we will get good things done.”
The county had previously provided $673,000 to fund public benefit non-for-profit
agencies and Day said Earl have come to an agreement to provide the funds
to cover the remainder of the year.
They also shook hands on securing a $60 million tax anticipation note, as is done this time yearly, to cover expenses until taxes are collected.
