NEWBURGH – Authorities arrested close to three dozen people on Monday morning as they executed several search warrants in the City of Newburgh, surrounding towns in Orange County, as well as in other areas of the Hudson Valley and New York City. Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said “in excess of 30 people” have been taken into custody.
Helicopters flew above as the warrant arrests went down for the safety of the officers involved.
The raids culminated a nine-month-long investigation into narcotics trafficking centered on the distribution of heroin, cocaine, PCP and marijuana dating back to June 2016.
The investigation uncovered several cells of a large scale drug trafficking organization operating in the county, State Police said.
The operation included State and City of Newburgh Police, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office as well as the US Drug Enforcement Administration, New Windsor and Town of Newburgh Police and City of Port Jervis Police.
