Greene County man drives vehicle into Hudson, drowns

COXSACKIE – A Coxsackie
man, who police attempted to pull over for a traffic stop, drove his vehicle
into the Hudson River on Friday.

Police attempted to rescue Jeffrey Dean, 48, once he got out of his vehicle,
but where unsuccessful. His body was located after a search of the river.

The incident began when a trooper from the Coxsackie barracks attempted
to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of Routes 81 and 9W in the
Town of Coxsackie. Dean assaulted the trooper and fled the scene in his
vehicle.

The trooper pursued him to the Village of Coxsackie and into Riverside
Park where Dean drove down the boat launch ramp and into the Hudson River.
There was no contact between the marked State Police car and Dean’s
vehicle.

Dean got out of his vehicle and attempted to swim to shore while the trooper
and Coxsackie village police officers tried unsuccessfully to rescue him.

Police conducted a search and eventually found him dead in the river.

The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information about the
incident is asked to call State Police at Catskill at 518-622-8600.
