HYDE PARK – Armed with $679,000 from the state Department of Transportation, the Town of Hyde Park will launch its plans to build a walkable downtown with sidewalks and related amenities.
The state money is 80 percent of the project cost with the town picking up the remainder from its fund balance.
Town Supervisor Aileen Rohr said the project could take yet another step forward.
“We are hopeful that we may actually acquire additional grant money that will cover the match and add street lighting. If that is the case, the project would then become a $1.3 million project,” she said.
Rohr said the sidewalk project will provide a safe connection for residents and tourists to neighborhoods, historic sites, businesses and trails.
