HAVERSTRAW – Police are
investigating the circumstances surrounding a suicide that occurred in
the Town of Haverstraw this morning (Wednesday).
Troopers said at 8:20 a.m., on Rosman Road at the intersection of Langschur
Court a man was stopped by law enforcement officials as part of a joint
FBI-State Police investigation. As officer approached his vehicle, Gerard
Benderoth, 48, of Stony Point pulled out a firearm and shot himself to
death.
State Police, the FBI and Rockland County Medical Examiner’s Office
are investigating.
