NEW PALTZ – Citizen Action of New York’s Hudson Valley Chapter is calling for Immigration and Naturalization to release New Paltz resident Joel Guerrero, who was taken into custody by federal officials. He is being held under the threat of deportation because he missed a 2011 court date.
Citizen Action regional lead organizer Callie Jayne said it is “heartless”
for Guerrero to be detained.
“What is happening to Joel Guerrero shows just how much pain and suffering is being unleashed on families by Donald Trump and his hateful agenda,” Jayne said. “Families are being ripped apart and there is nothing good that can come from taking people from their families and deporting them.”
Guerrero’s wife, Jessica, a New Paltz native, is six months pregnant. She has been working with attorneys in an effort to have her husband released.
