GOSHEN – Attorney William DeProspo, a one-time Orange County Republican Party chairman, announced to a packed house at a Goshen restaurant Thursday night that he would run for county court judge this fall.
Supporters ranged from construction union leadership, Conservative Party leaders, to public officials and even a top Orange County Democrat, Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano, who attended and announced his support for DeProspo.

DeProspo: “My heritage and my life experiences …”

DeStefano – not the first time he has crossed party lines
to endorse a Republican

“I first met Bill almost as an adversary,” DeStefano told
the DeProspo supporters. “I was kind of envious when he was chairman
of the Republican Party. I was a former chairman of the Democratic Party
and he had a lot of success. I was always wondering what the hell this
guy was doing; what does he do.”
For DeProspo’s part, he said he has the experience to be a jurist.
“My heritage and my life experiences will guide me throughout this campaign and indeed they will be my moral compass when I take the bench,” DeProspo said. “Wearing a robe is a great privilege and I will always respect it as such.”
Serving on the bench is nothing new to the DeProspo family. The candidate’s wife, Katie Bartlett, is also a judge in the court of claims and state supreme court.
