Dutchess awards $900,000 to non-profits

POUGHKEEPSIE – A total
of 24 grants worth $900,000 have been awarded to 16 non-profit organizations
through the Dutchess County Agency Partner Grant program. The program
was implemented in 2013 with a process competing for grants in three categories
– economic and cultural benefit, health and human services, and
environmental and agricultural sustainability.
A new after-school program at the New Hope Community Center in the City of Poughkeepsie will be funded by $100,000 from the county program and operated by the Boys and Girls Club of Newburgh. The program will target the academic, social and behavioral development of city youths.
Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley has also committed funds,
said County Executive Marcus Molinaro.
“We are working with a number of community partners who are also making financial commitments to bring the Boys and Girls Club to Dutchess County,” Molinaro said. “Our $100,000 is just part of the mix and we are just thrilled that we can provide this device and this program to City of Poughkeepsie young people.”

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Dutchess County – $65,000 for 4-H youth programs
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Dutchess County – $100,000 for Youth Vocational Training activities
Literacy Connections – $27,000 for building basic literacy skills
Northeast Community Council, Inc. – $41,000 for the community Partnership with Schools and Business program
Spark Media Project – $21,000 to support an after-school and summer media arts vocational development program

Health and Human Services:

Boys & Girls Club of Newburgh – $100,000 for After-school program in City of Poughkeepsie
Catholic Charities Community Services of Dutchess County – $25,000 for a case management program
Center for Prevention of Child Abuse – $14,000 for Personal Safety Program
Center for Prevention of Child Abuse – $25,000 to expand the Teen Parent Program
Dutchess Outreach – $23,000 to provide locally produced fresh food options
Family Services – $14,000 for an after-school Teen Resource Activity Center
Family Services – $15,000 to hire an advocate to handle hotline calls for the Domestic Violence Lethality Assessment program
Friends of Seniors of Dutchess County Corp. – $41,000 for its Senior Medical Transportation program
Hudson River Housing – $34,000 for housing navigation and transition services
Hudson River Housing – $21,000 to support the Youth LEAP program
Mediation Center of Dutchess County – $38,000 for an anti-bullying initiative in schools
Mediation Center of Dutchess County – $40,000 to fund an evidence-based Restorative Justice Initiative
Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum – $20,000 for a school-readiness skill development program for at-risk children
Northeast Community Council – $33,000 for nutritional food access programs
Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church – $10,000 for the Harriet Tubman Academic Skills Center
The National Alliance on Mental Illness Mid-Hudson — $27,000 for mental wellness and mental health literacy
Environmental and Agricultural Sustainability:

Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County – $90,000 to provide municipal officials and residents with education, resources and support needed for land use planning decisions.
