BREWSTER – Thousands of pinwheels will be on display throughout Putnam County in the next month thanks to the Pinwheel Campaign in conjunction with April being declared as Child Abuse Awareness Month.
The Child Advocacy Center working in conjunction with county government will be spearheading the initiative for the second consecutive year.

Mary Beth Ross who is coordinating the pinwheel program along with the organization’s Executive Director Marla Behler called pinwheels “happy and uplifting tokens of childhood. They are meant to convey that every child deserves the chance to be raised in a healthy, safe and nurturing environment.”
Friends of the Putnam CAC partnered with Volunteer New York, The Putnam County Branch of the New York Riders group and dozens of student volunteers over the weekend at the Brewster Fire Department headquarters to create pinwheel pots that will be sold to area businesses and community organizations.
The Child Advocacy Center’s pinwheel pots feature blue and silver pinwheels that symbolize what organizers said “every child deserves: A safe, healthy and carefree childhood.”
“By displaying thousands of pinwheels and showing support for the children of our communities, residents of Putnam County can help us stop child abuse before it starts,” said Behler.
