WHITE PLAINS – Holding gun shows in Westchester County government-owned facilities may be allowed now that Republican County Executive Robert Astorino vetoed a Board of Legislators’ effort to ban those shows, but Democratic lawmakers are exploring another approach.
They want to adopt a measure that would allow gun shows in any private
facility in the county providing they followed strict guidelines as proposed
by state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
Majority Leader Catherine Borgia said the discussion began Monday night.
“It needed some clarification about what the violations specifically would be, what the penalties would be,” Borgia said. “How we would work with local law enforcement to make sure that the security aspects of the bill were handled and would like to have a discussion about the paraphernalia that was sold at the gun show in January, basically the Nazi and Confederate and date rape culture.”
While this legislation is vetted, lawmakers have until next December to garner enough votes to override Astorino’s veto allowing gun shows in county facilities.
