STONE RIDGE – Students attending SUNY Ulster are eligible to participate in a new food pantry that will formally rolled out on Wednesday in the atrium of the book store in Vanderlyn Hall on the Stone Ridge campus.
Rev. Robin James of St. Andrews Church in New Paltz is coordinating the program and she said unlike other food pantry programs, theirs does not require proof of need of any kind.
“That you qualify for food stamps or you qualify for any kind of government assistance and it may not be that severe for you,” James said. “You just don’t have enough money to buy both textbooks and food and that is not the fault of anybody. It’s just an economic reality for some of us.”
The food pantry, co-sponsored by SUNY Ulster, has already opened on a limited basis.
