KINGSTON – Ulster County Legislator Jonathan Heppner, a member of the Democratic minority, has proposed a memorializing resolution expressing the county’s opposition to the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.
Heppner, who is a member of the legislature’s Public Health and Social Services Committee, said without Obamacare, county residents would take a big hit in terms of losing their health care coverage.
“A recent report from the state estimates that almost 20,000 residents
in Ulster County would be at risk of losing their health care with full
repeal of the ACA,” he said. “Additionally Ulster County could
face losing almost $3 million in additional federal funding through the
affordable Care Act.”
Heppner is hopeful that the narrow Republican majority on the county legislature will join in a bipartisan effort to send the message to Washington.
