WHITE PLAINS – A former controller at Pelham Country Club in Pelham Manor was sentenced in Westchester County Court on Friday to two and one-third to seven years in state prison after pleading guilty to grand larceny and criminal tax fraud both as felonies.  She is also required to repay the more than $719,000 for the larceny and the $45,486 in state taxes.
From January 1, 2010 through February 28, 2015 Gretchen Wauchope, 46, was the controller at the country club and systematically embezzled $719,270 from the country club’s bank accounts and deposited the money in her own personal bank accounts. She used the money to pay personal credit card debt for such items as a $100,000 recreational vehicle, regular high-end salon visits, luxury automobiles, and rent on a private home that exceeded $4,000 per month.
She also got nabbed for failure to pay $45,486 in state income tax on the stolen funds.
The thefts were discovered following an internal investigation by the country club, which then referred the matter to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
