TOWN OF GREENBURGH – In his regional state of the state messages, Governor Cuomo called for municipalities to explore and implement shared services for efficiency and cost-savings purposes.
Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said his town has been doing that already with much success.
The teamed up with its six villages – Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings,
Irvington, Elmsford and Tarrytown – for assessment purposes.
“All of the villages had assessors and the Town of Greenburgh had our own assessor and it was duplication because the villages are located within the town, so the villages all decided toward the end of last year to eliminate their assessment units, so now there will be one assessor for the entire town,” Feiner said.
For the first time in 60 years, a reassessment of all properties was
conducted in the town.
Feiner said the municipalities collectively saved a few hundred thousand dollars with the merged service.  He said the communities in Greenburgh are looking at more sharing, including of equipment, personnel, purchasing, and one court system.
