WHITE PLAINS – An Elmsford man was sentenced in Westchester County Court on Wednesday to 14 years in state prison for shooting a former Greenburgh police officer.
Taqiy Walton, 34, faced charges of assault, attempted assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He pled guilty to all charges.
It was on July 13, 2015 at about 3:45 p.m. that the victim was mowing his lawn when he spotted a car in the driveway of a home that he knew was vacant across the street at 5 Payne Road in Elmsford.
The victim and his son, who is a current Greenburgh officer, went over to investigate and questioned two men as they came out of the house. They became belligerent toward the father and son and as they began to walk away, Walton pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and fired it at the two men, striking the father in the torso and arm.
As the suspects fled, the son took down the license plate number of the car in which they were riding and Yonkers Police later apprehended them on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers. The next day, a State Police K-9 found the pistol not far from where the defendants were arrested.
On January 5, 2017, the co-defendant was sentenced to 3 ½ years in state prison after having pled guilty to felony burglary.
