MONTICELLO – A 45-year-old Monticello man was arrested on Saturday
on charges of burglary, assault, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and
obstructing governmental administration.

Monticello Police responded to a report of a burglary with two assault
victims at a residence on Hillside Avenue at 3 a.m. on Saturday.

A 32-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman told officers that Jason Carnell
kicked in the front door and physically assaulted them. Carnell has previously
been in a relationship with the woman. She was able to run out of the
residence, but Carnell ran after her and attempted to drag her to his
parked car. She was able to break free and call 911.

When the police arrived, Carnell was seen running from the scene, but
was located a short time later on West Broadway. When he was told that
he was under arrest, he struggled with village and State Police officers
and tried to pull away. Monticello Police Sgt. Jason Corley then deployed
a Taser to subdue Carnell, who was taken into custody.

Both victims were transported by ambulance to Catskill Regional Medical
Center where the woman was treated for facial injuries and the male was
treated for a broken nose and a laceration on the back of his head.

Carnell was arraigned before Village Justice Josephine Finn and remanded
to the Sullivan County Jail without bail pending a future court appearance.
