Construction continues on new bridge

NYACK – As state officials tinker privately as to how much to raise
tolls on the Tappan Zee Bridge when the new twin spans are open, State
Senator David Carlucci (D-Nanuet) is calling for open discussions on the
matter.

When the new bridge project first got underway there were talks that tolls
could increase to as much as $15. There has been no talk of tolls in recent
months.

Carlucci, Wednesday, called for a public hearing in the counties that
connect the bridge and he also wants a toll task force that was first
supposed to be convened before the end of the year.

“We need to still work with them to create this toll task force,
to come up with a plan for a resident discount, and other strategies to
save toll payers money,” he said.
In a letter to Carlucci last March, Thruway Authority Interim Executive
Director Maria Lehman wrote that “The task force will convene following
the enactment of the state fiscal year 2016-17 budget and will seek public
input, including in Rockland County at a location to be determined,.”

She said then the task force would consider “among other things
a Rockland and Westchester resident discount program and will report the
task force’s findings by the end of 2016.”

Carlucci pointed out that the clock is ticking toward the end of the year.
