WASHINGTON – Several non-profits and local governments have been granted federal funding to continue to aid the homeless population.
The funds are geared toward ending homelessness through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care Program, aimed at quickly rehousing homeless individuals and families and promoting access to programs that encourage self-sufficiency.

Columbia County, six programs will receive a total of $282,312.
Dutchess County, 13 programs will receive a total of $1.28 million.
Orange County, 14 programs will receive a total of $2.49 million.
Sullivan County, two programs will receive a total of $366,967.
Ulster County, 11 programs will receive a total of $1.1 million.

“One homeless family is one too many, and we must do everything we can to help provide those truly in need with a place to live,” said Senator Charles Schumer, who announced the funding along with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
“No family should ever be without a place to call home, and these federal funds will help provide New Yorkers in need with the resources and support that can help them find safe housing and avoid homelessness,” she said.
