POUGHKEEPSIE – IBM is the second largest employer in Dutchess County with several thousand jobs in the local workforce.
When Deputy County Executive for Economic Development Ronald Hicks learned Big Blue’s president, Ginni Rometty, plans on hiring some 25,000 people in the US, he logged online.
“Probably the easiest way to communicate nowadays is through Twitter so we tweeted a story that we read and let the CEO know that if she wants to create those jobs, if she creates them in Dutchess County, we will match her job training investment,” he said.
Hicks said the Poughkeepsie IBM campus is doing well making the most advanced operating system in the world.
The county has not heard back from IBM.
