GOSHEN – The Orange County Legislature’s Physical Services Committee approved an easement agreement on Monday for a right-of-way with Middletown to make way for extension of the Heritage Trail through the city.
Even after the full legislature approves the easement in the next few weeks, committee Chairman Barry Cheney said actual construction is a year away.
“We don’t have the approvals for the tree removals yet so that will probably have to wait until next Indian Bat season, which I think runs from either October 1 or November 1 through March 31,” Cheney said. Those are the times when the bats are not in the trees then you can then remove the trees without harming their resting places.”
The legislative committee also approved an agreement with the state to replace a bridge over Route 208 over the Heritage Trail in the Monroe area and maintain, repair and energize the lighting system for a culvert to replace the bridge.
