DOBBS FERRY – Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D, NY-17) is hopeful the nation and world will not take a step back over climate change as the first anniversary of the Paris Climate Agreement is celebrated.
Her concern, expressed during a roundtable with local environmental leaders
at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry on Monday, is with the President-elect
and both houses of Congress being Republican, there would be storm clouds
ahead.
“You just have to be optimistic, as I chose to be, that even among the Republicans there are so that will speak out be very honest and direct with this administration and help them understand the challenges of climate change,” Lowey said. “Whether it is the temperature or the water rising, it is really quite amazing to me that the head of the EPA and other appointees still don’t believe what scientists have proven for many years now.”
The Democratic congresswoman said President-elect Trump “must build
on our progress, uphold the Paris Climate Agreement, and ensure the United
States continues to lead the fight to combat our planet’s rising
temperatures.”
