Santa and his helpers spent the day handing out candy canes

CARMEL – This is the time of year when Santa hops on fire trucks
across the region and around the world to pay visits to children.
This weekend was no exception as the jolly man in the red suit participated
in the Candy Cane Run in Putnam County.

By the end of the day on Saturday, Santa and his helpers had handed out
over 31,000 candy canes for the kids and over 460 doggy treats for their
pets.

Putnam County Assistant Emergency Services Commissioner Robert Lipton
participated in the Candy Cane Run saying “the firefighters and
their families enjoy this day as much as the recipients of the candy canes
do.”

He said watching the expressions on the children’s faces when they
get the candy make it all worth it.

Santa traversed Putnam County from Carmel and Mahopac to Putnam Valley,
Kent and Philipstown.
