from business executives on Thursday

TOWN OF WALLKILL – More drug addicts who come out of rehab can
stay clean if doctors and healthcare professionals provide the after-care
for them, Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said Thursday.

He made his comments to members of the business community at a breakfast
meeting of the Orange County Chamber of Commerce in Wallkill.

Hoovler said often heroin addicts fall back into their old ways without
that additional medical attention.

“They get out of treatment, they get out of detox, they’re
going down the street and someone is going to try to predatorily sell
them drugs or something else. Sometimes they fall victim to it and relapse.
But a lot of times if they are on a methadone maintenance program, if
they are on suboxone or Vivitrol, that doesn’t happen,” he
said. “I am a big proponent of that. I hope the medical providers
in this county take a chance on it.”
Hoovler noted that Newburgh-based Cornerstone Family Healthcare is a
proponent of after-care treatment.
