NEW YORK – Homelessness in the Hudson Valley is declining, according to a 2016 report by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The report found a 4.5 percent drop in the number of people experiencing homelessness in the region on a single night in 2016.
Since 2010, homelessness in the Valley is down 5.8 percent, with major reductions in the number of unsheltered persons, chronic homelessness, and veterans’ homelessness.
“Across the Hudson Valley, HUD-funded homeless service providers are leading the way in housing the homeless,” said HUD Regional Director Holly Leicht. “Unprecedented collaboration at all levels of government and innovative strategies backed by federal resources have resulted in major declines in unsheltered, chronic, and veterans’ homelessness.”
