Police continue to investigate 1977 Sullivan homicide

WURTSBORO – A March 1977 murder in Sullivan County remains an unsolved cold case and State Police are continuing their investigation into who stabbed Anna Jane Brown in her home 21 times.
On March 4, 1977, troopers received a radio call reporting a stabbing at Brown’s home on Old Route 209 in Summitville. When troopers arrived just before 4 p.m., they were met by the victim’s daughter, Barbara Millspaugh.
Brown, 43, was found dead on the floor in the foyer of her residence.
Investigation revealed a gaping wound in the center of her chest along with several knife wounds and traumatic injuries to her head and face.  Her pants and underwear were pulled down to her knees and her blouse was raised to the bra line.
Medical examination disclosed 21 stab wounds including two knives left in her body along with evidence of strangulation.
Neighborhood interviews and related investigations uncovered on prime suspect, but police did not elaborate on the outcome of that.
